AlphaGraphics raises £300 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service

Members of the AlphaGraphics team raised £300 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service by walking, running, or cycling over 526 miles in 31 days.

AlphaGraphics has pledged to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) throughout 2021, and as part of its latest efforts, four members of the team took part in the charity’s annual Race To The Base fundraising challenge.

Fundraisers pledged to run, walk or cycle the distance the GNAAS’s critical care team fly when returning to various local bases from the RVI in Newcastle, the North’s main major trauma centre.

Client Services Director, Hugh Wharton, Chief Technical Officer, Matt Moran, Printer, Sean Byrne and Marketing Manager, Lucy Burgon had a target of 32, 46 or 130 miles to choose from, and they collectively hit a total of 526 miles.

Hugh said:

“Initially we set our own targets of what we wanted to achieve, some were higher than others, but in the end, it was great to see that we exceeded 500 miles as a team.

“We’re pleased that we raised a lot of money for a charity that means a great deal to so many of us across the region.”

The team used smartwatches and trackers to log their miles as they went. As the Race To The Base took place in lockdown, the team was mindful of social distancing and lockdown restrictions and adhered to all measures.

AlphaGraphics has also raised further funds for the charity by selling old office furniture and donating the money to GNAAS. The whole team is planning further fundraising opportunities in the coming months including a spring clean incentive which involves donating old clothes.

Commenting on behalf of all participants, Matt added: “We want to say a massive thank you to all who donated, we’re so proud that we smashed our initial target of £100.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing how we can raise more money in further fundraisers later this year.”
